BC Bloggers Meme: The 5 Things I Want to Do Before I Get Old

I'm joining the bandwagon of memes.  I'm getting the hang of it somehow and I consider it a writing challenge.  Something like a kick from behind saying "Write something! Anything!"  They say writing can also become a habit.  So let's give it a try.

I'm getting a bit of a conflict with this week's topic though.  There are so many things I want to do, but I got to pick the top 5 only.  Another is getting old.  They say, we are only as old as we think we are.  I embrace youthfulness, so how old is old?  But enough of the philosophizing.  What do I want to achieve before I turn 100?  I guess that would be old enough, huh?  So let's put on the thinking hat...or glasses...

After giving it some thought, I've come up with my top 5:

Discover my ultimate purpose
It's not that my life is without purpose.  It's that I want to discover the one thing that I was made for, the very reason I exist, preferably when I am still relatively young, strong, and able.  But as they say, we also need to wait upon Him.  So, I'll just stay put, do the things that I am tasked to do at present, until the time comes.

Be as strong and healthy as when I am at my prime age
As you know in my other blog, I am striving to live a healthier life.  I'd like to inspire others to do that also, not to be resigned to one's genetic tendencies.  I'd like to be able to do push-ups and lift some weights even when I am already 60 or 70 years old.  Living longer and staying healthy also means I can do so much more, in relation to my first item on the list.

Be really, really good at guitars and learn to play other musical instruments
Music has always been my passion.  But I feel I am not fully utilizing that "fire" and "passion" I have for the craft.  I'd like to be really good at guitar playing and to learn how to play the violin, harp, piano (yup I am more into stringed instruments) and maybe have my hands on drums as well.  No, I am not really going to form a one-woman band here.  If I get really good, I'd like to teach kids someday.  Who knows, maybe a music school would be a great thing ...

Have my own place
I still don't know where, but I hope it's somewhere near my church.  That way, I could participate more in church activities.  I hope my own place would be big enough for my mom and my nephews.  Would be nice to live together instead of seeing them only on certain weekends.

Travel
I'd like to go places, hopefully have my mom tag along if she's up to it.  There are so many wonderful places to go to and I'd like to start with our own country, of course!

So much to do, so little time, right?  I'm now curious to see what's on the list of others.  I guess I'll head over to ielenna's blog to find out.  I'd also like to invite you to join BC Bloggers.  There are so many interesting blogs and writers behind each of those blogs.  Hope to see you there!

  1. i am also hoping that when I grow old, I am healthy and can combat disease that most of my age can't take.

You also want to learn some musical instruments, we have the same thought on that.

  2. Hmmm. Musical instruments. I play the guitar, but would love to play the piano.

  3. @ielenna - yup! I only know guitar and a bit of keyboards. I feel I could still do more in that field.

@Yhey - piano was my first choice when I was a kid but back then, lessons and having our own piano is quite expensive. Guitar it is for me. :-)

  4. You might be surprised that there are somethings you have in common with the other bloggers' lists, mine included.

The piano is also a string instrument. You might be surprise once you found out it is not really that hard to learn how to play for it. Good luck !

  11. You have an interesting list here Aileen! My first time to visit this new blog of yours, too. I'm following Sis!

Anyway, back to the topic...I like your number 1 and 2. I also wanted to know my real purpose in life and to be able to keep my health on it's optimum level even at my old age. Staying healthy means living a longer with my family. So I have to work more on that! Nice to hear that you love to travel too. :)

  12. @ Michi - yes, that would really be wonderful, finding the one thing that I would love to live for and willing to die for also. That book you mentioned changed my perspective about life. So simple yet so profound how Rick Warren puts it all together.

@ January - You never know, you might have a hidden talent for musical instruments

@ Krizza - sis thanks so much! For someone who rarely travels (parang grounded lang hehehe) I really long to go to places. Am sure it would be a great learning experience.

  18. You're right with the living near church part. We're living at my hubby's childhood home. It's siguro 10 steps away from our church. So hubby and his siblings grew up being involved in their church. Until now may pamilya na si hubby ganun pa rin and pati si Z ganun na rin, parang bahay na rin yung church! So I am at ease talaga living here coz my sons will be growing up with people with the same belief like ours and being actively involved in the ministry. So it's worth it living near your church, sis. Hope you can find a house that fits your criteria.

  19. Hi Paula! I've been eyeing a very beautiful house right in front of our church. Kaso di carry ng budget (as if merong budget lol!) It's priced at 14M whew! Pero sabi nga, libre naman mangarap..if not a house nearby, maybe the Lord will give me a car hahaha!
