Work Is Love Made Visible

I remember being terrified of speech class and I mean really terrified, although I'm good at hiding that. Any introvert would feel that, I think.  And I specially hate extemporaneous speech sessions where you draw a topic on the spot and you are expected to deliver an impromptu speech for three minutes.  Imagine, wracking your brains on what to say and you're given a few seconds  to prepare and gather your thoughts and wits and stand up in front of the class and deliver those words in a way that would somehow make sense.  Of course, that's assuming you have an idea on the topic.  Otherwise, you utter some few incomprehensible thoughts for a few seconds before you suddenly turn red with embarrassment as you wait out the remaining time, in front of the whole class.

I was mulling over work life earlier in the day.  And I guess those speech classes still have their post traumatic effects on me after more than two decades hahaha!  When I think about work, this line from one of my speeches always pops out:

Gratitude and Kindness

Who doesn’t like receiving gifts? I don’t know of anyone, so if you’re one, well you’re definitely one of a kind.

So as not to generalize everyone, and to be safe, I’ll say that most of us love receiving gifts. We are materialistic by nature so we like getting stuff. We like being surprised. We like the thoughtfulness that goes with the gift. It means we are important, and we are loved. Not that those who don’t get gifts are not loved. But I’m sure you get my drift.

Best of all about a gift is that it’s free!

{Five Minute Friday}: Truth

Five Minute Friday
Every Friday, a group of women gather round over at Lisa-Jo's place to write and share musings about a word prompt, all in five minutes.  The word for this week is TRUTH, and to be truthful about it, it took me 5 minutes for the first 2 paragraphs only.  My mind wanders off too often, I'm afraid.  And here is what I have written for 12 minutes.

The Calm After the Storm

I happened to look out the window and for the first time in 4 days, I can finally see a faint ray of sunlight.  It finally broke through the thick gray clouds!  It's still very cloudy indicating more rains but at least it's not a continuous downpour as in the past 3 days.  The rain would still come in spurts so an umbrella or coat should never be out of reach when going outdoors.  You never really know when it's going to suddenly pour out from the sky...no warning drizzles.

Who Do We Cling To?

Source
I am saddened at seeing how a colleague is dealing with difficulties at this moment.  I've seen his devastation and how his troubles has even affected him physically. He'd lost weight, but I had thought that he was coping well and he seems to be the type of person who has a good head above his shoulders. Well, I was mistaken, and to see him treading a destructive path is disheartening.

I realize, however, that I cannot judge him about his choices of coping with his problems.  As they always say, you have to walk in the person's shoes to understand him.  People react differently and cope in varied ways.

SOAP and a Cup of Coffee

Source
To be honest, it's only a few days ago that I got acquainted with SOAP.  I may have been doing parts of that, but not as methodical as what SOAP does.  I realize, it is important to journal these things, in light of my searching for a deeper relationship with God.  As with regular journals, we get a better perspective by first writing down our thoughts and what our heart says.  Reading that makes us see things in a better light.  At least that's what I realize when I read old journals (or diaries).  Sometimes, it makes me smile to reminisce, and at other times, I simply feel foolish.

But writing down thoughts as I meditate on His words, I doubt that I will ever feel foolish.  I know that I will feel blessed and constantly reminded of His goodness and presence in my life.

And as I do the SOAP routine, I think I'll have my favorite morning brew.  It's like having a cup of coffee with God, right?

Silence Is Golden But Duct Tape Is Silver

I find this funny, but it rings truth in it. There is always a time for everything. Sometimes, we need to talk, and sometimes we need to hold that tongue...or someone else will have to do that. In this noisy world already full of distractions, silence is a precious commodity.  There is a good reason why we have two ears and just one mouth.  We are meant to listen more than wagging those tongues.

Just a reminder, and something to ponder on, next time we are tempted to nag and lash out at somebody.  That person may have a stock of handy duct tape rolls to put in use.  Lol!

God's Perfect Timing

Source
Talk about impeccable timing.  I went home to the province last Saturday and all throughout the bus ride, it was a good weather.  Just barely a few minutes after I got home and settled down my baggage, the rain poured out.  Whoa! It's like a hair's breadth from being all soaked up!  I was silently thanking God for holding it up a bit...then I thought no more of it...but that's not yet the end of it.
